BKP Philippines Inc.

Director/Founder:  Alice Quilicot
BKP-Philippines was set-up in 2001 to serve as the implementing arm of BKP, Inc. headed by appointed director, Alice P. Quilicot.  It is a registered 501 c(3) in the Philippines and governed by a Board with 5 members.  The following is a brief description of its programs and services.

•   Community library set-up
We help establish modest libraries for young children, preferably near public elementary school/s or a location where it will be convenient for children to come and borrow or return books conveniently. It is initially stocked with a collection of colorful story and picture books.

•  Functional literacy with focus on the Read Aloud Method
Regular reading sessions will be conducted where young children will listen to stories read by volunteer reading mentors. These sessions are not meant to teach the youngsters how to read per se but to introduce them to the joys of reading, at the same time expanding their vocabulary by exposing them to the English language.

•  Training -
Read aloud seminars
For trainers and volunteer using the Read-Aloud Method. The seminars equip them with knowledge and skills to be effective in these reading sessions.
Target volunteers to do echo workshops on the Read Aloud, library, management and support and other programs of BKP.

•  Partnership building
For community/ academic leaders involved with the BKP libraries. Aids them in organizing not only the libraries themselves but also the parents, students, volunteers and children in their communities.

•  Networking
We will work closely with the
People - to ensure success of the library and its programs;
Parents – to ensure those children will attend regular story hours and to read and return books that the children will borrow;  Barangay Captain/ officials – gives us access to the community and helps invite parents and children to join the reading program;  Principal/ Dean of nearby schools and colleges - sends their students who will read aloud to the children and make it a part of their community service; and NGOs and other partner organizations – to help in the sustenance of the library and also help with the available resources in the different areas.

• Advocacy
Enjoin individuals, groups, organizations to promote this love for reading in the young members of the society, with emphasis on children in the depressed areas. To promote a reading culture amongst them that is may empower them and equip them with crucial skills like reading and literacy which will be their ticket to better economic, social and civic lives in the future

Analise Lawson - Chairperson/Director of  Operations
My name is Ana Lawson and I am a senior at San Pasqual High School. I am involved in the Assistance League of Inland North County and enjoy wakeboarding, snowboarding, and surfing in my spare time. My goal for this book drive is to give the children in the Philippines a chance to learn english and have a library they can call their own. I am so happy to be able to help these children knowing that I have helped to make a difference in their lives. We have a great program going and our team will do everything we can to involve the community and make this book drive one of a kind!

Cayla Gruwell - Co-Chair/Director of Activities
I’m Cayla Gruwell and I am a triplet and a Senior at San Pasqual High school.  I was born in Escondido and have lived here ever since.   I am the captain of the SPHS varsity cheer team and am enjoying my fourth and final year on the squad.  I am passionate about volunteering and helping others and am currently a member of the Assisteens league of  inland Escondido which helps service projects directed toward helping others.   I also partake in preparing meals for the homeless at Interfaith.  Overloads of homework are a constant issue while trying to balance two AP classes, cheer, and everything else in between, but I love the challenge.  Traveling and taking photos are my true love and my dream job would be a combo of the two.  My real inspirations in life are my older brother, Bryce and my mom and my life would not be complete with out my family and friends.
